Philippines: Service Delivery

Services do not exist in a void. They are governed by policy directives. As a result, local government units (LGUs) need to have a solid understanding of these policies while addressing supply-side issues such as provider bias, cost, privacy, transportation, and the availability of appropriate commodities.

The following high-impact interventions will help to ensure increased access to reproductive health services and uptake of modern contraceptive methods among adolescents and youth by strengthening the capacity of city health workers and community volunteers on updated DOH AYSRH protocols,  supporting the operationalization of adolescent-friendly health services (AFHS) standards and ensuring that all pregnant young women receive family planning counseling in antenatal care and delivery and adopt a method or are given a referral back to health centers for follow-up care and management needs.
