On February 26, 2026, the William H. Gates Sr. Institute for Population and Reproductive Health and Itad hosted this joint webinar to share findings from Itad’s independent evaluation of The Challenge Initiative (TCI) platform for scaling family planning programs. The evaluation examined TCI’s impact, sustainability, and value across multiple countries and cities, drawing on impact evaluation, process evaluation, and cost-benefit analysis.

Eight districts in Sindh successfully graduated after three years of high-impact practices and other interventions for family planning, highlighting strengthened local health systems, empowered government leadership, and concrete progress toward Pakistan’s FP2030 commitments.

The Challenge Initiative (TCI) announced Nov. 18, 2025, that its digital learning platform, TCI University (TCI-U), has been named a Silver Winner in the Health – Product, Innovation, or Service Category for Best Education or Literacy Platform in the 5th Annual Anthem Awards.

Family planning in Sokoto was once viewed with doubt and hesitation, but it has gained widespread acceptance through strong community involvement, strategic media advocacy, and inclusive health services. The Challenge Initiative (TCI) played a crucial role by empowering community mobilizers, local tea vendors, healthcare providers, and journalists to transform perceptions and improve reproductive health outcomes throughout the state. TCI’s partnership with Sokoto highlights how targeted demand generation, capacity building, and integrated mentoring have driven significant progress in family planning acceptance and service uptake across Sokoto.

With the Challenge Initiative’s (TCI) partnership, Yobe State has achieved rapid expansion in the availability and quality of family planning services by training health providers, strengthening data management systems, and securing dedicated budget allocations for family planning. This collaborative effort has resulted in increased community awareness, enhanced service delivery infrastructure, and a strong commitment to sustaining family planning programs at the local government level. TCI’s interventions, including whole-site orientation, monthly data validation, and engaging journalists as advocates, have catalyzed these transformative changes, positioning Yobe as a model for sustainable family planning progress in Nigeria.

Despite the initial resistance, Borno State embraced family planning by actively engaging communities, involving religious leaders, and receiving capacity-building assistance from TCI. The results are evident: increased awareness, expanded access, and a growing movement to sustain progress.

In Akwa Ibom, myths and misinformation once hindered family planning efforts. Supported by TCI, the state expanded outreach activities and provided training for health providers. It strengthened community trust, leading to improved access and awareness of family planning services in 10 local government areas.
