Representatives from Bayer AG recently visited the Kahawa West Health Centre – a facility located in Nairobi County, Kenya that is supported by The Challenge Initiative (TCI). TCI’s primary funders are the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Bayer AG.

During the visit, the Bayer team interacted with the health management team as well as family planning service providers who work in the pharmacy, the family planning clinic and an integration area within the maternity clinic. The health facility shared data with Bayer on family planning performance indicators, including contraceptive methods available at the facility such as Jadelle, an implant manufactured by Bayer.

The Bayer team learned from facility staff how commodities flow through the national level supply chain and about the uptake of contraceptives, including some of their own products.

Post-pregnancy family planning (PPFP) was one of TCI’s high-impact practices of particular interest to the Bayer team. TCI-trained coaches were able to share how they have implemented PPFP within their facility.

During a debrief after the visit, Max Mueller, Bayer’s head of Global Public Affairs said:

Being here to see the support and the smile of the providers makes us proud to be part of The Challenge Initiative. It is different reading about it and actually seeing what is happening on the ground.”

The photos below show some highlights from the visit.
