The Challenge Initiative – A New Model for Urban Reproductive Health
The Challenge Initiative is led by the Bill & Melinda Gates Institute for Population and Reproductive Health, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. The Initiative represents an exciting new approach to providing life-saving reproductive health and family planning information and services to individuals, families and communities, building on the demonstrated success of the Gates Foundation’s Urban Reproductive Health Initiative (URHI).
News from the Initiative
In Dar es Salaam’s Kigamboni district, the Initiative’s efforts were boosted by eight committed doctors, leading to a whopping 143% increase in LARC acceptors and a 60% increase in short-term acceptors between March 2018 and March 2019.
Integrating Family Planning into MNCH Week Yields Significant Increase in New Acceptors in Niger State
TCI’s work with Niger State officials in Nigeria to get family planning integrated into Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) week led to a dramatic increase in the number of family planning acceptors.
The state governments in both Uttar Pradesh (UP) and Madyha Pradesh (MP) have officially endorsed nine of The Challenge Initiative for Healthy Cities’ (TCIHC) proven approaches.
