Christina Cherel

Communications Specialist

As the Communications Specialist at the Gates Institute, Christina supports The Challenge Initiative’s (TCI) communication strategy design and implementation across all program countries to help our partners document their urban reproductive health achievements. Most recently, Christina worked in Washington DC where she developed policy and advocacy campaigns to improve reproductive health, rights and justice for women and underserved communities.

Prior to joining the Gates Institute, Christina worked in rural Kenya developing M&E strategies to improve maternal and child health program management in the region, with Peer Health Exchange as a sexual health peer educator, and at Crusaid, a London-based nonprofit organization dedicated to helping poor and marginalized people affected by HIV/AIDS.

Christina is a proud graduate of Boston University, receiving both her MPH in maternal and child health and BA with honors in international relations, and is passionate about reproductive justice, expanding family planning options and promoting non-stigmatized sexual health care and well-being.
