Dr. Sadia spearheads a Family Health Day event in District Korangi.
District Korangi in Karachi is a diverse and densely populated area, home to various ethnic groups including Baloch, Pashtun, Sindhi, Punjabi, and others. Known for its vast Korangi Industrial Area, one of the largest industrial zones in Sindh, it holds significant economic importance. However, much of the district consists of urban slums, and with a rapid population growth rate of 3.29%, its population has now reached approximately 2.6 million.
Recognizing the need for strengthened health systems and family planning services, Korangi has been engaged with The Challenge Initiative (TCI) since September 2022, receiving continuous technical support and capacity-strengthening interventions.
One standout example of TCI’s impact is Dr. Sadia Jamil, Family Planning Focal Person and Assistant to the Deputy District Health Officer in Korangi. A dedicated public health professional and certified Master Coach on TCI University (TCI-U), Dr. Sadia was introduced to the platform by City Manager Ms. Amber Ghazunfer. Motivated to deepen her expertise, she set her sights on achieving the prestigious rank of “Expert” on TCI-U.
Her commitment paid off when she became the first TCI-trained Master Coach in her district to earn that status, achieving a perfect score of 10,000/10,000. This milestone reflects her dedication to using digital learning tools and applying them to deliver high-quality family planning services.
Dr. Sadia incorporates TCI-U resources, including informational materials, research papers, and evidence-based practices, into her daily work. She is also an active contributor to the TCI-U Community of Practice, believing strongly in the power of peer learning.
She shared:
TCI University has been an amazing platform where I have found so many useful articles, resources, abstracts, and academic papers. I use them daily and have truly become addicted to learning. Surprisingly, it’s a public platform and open for all. Becoming a Master Coach and achieving Expert status is something I proudly mention during all my trainings and seminars. As a Family Planning Focal Person, I am eager to adopt modern, yet culturally appropriate, methods to better serve our communities.”

Dr. Sadia explains the data reporting & recording mechanism to Global Representatives.
Her story reflects TCI’s approach of empowering local champions with the tools and knowledge to institutionalize high-impact interventions in family planning. Through her mentorship, Dr. Sadia has inspired trainees, mentees, and frontline workers, including Community Health Workers, Lady Health Workers, and Lady Health Visitors, to follow her example.
By leading from the front and fostering a culture of continuous learning, Dr. Sadia is making quality family planning services more accessible, acceptable, and sustainable across District Korangi. She stands as a powerful example of how local leadership, when equipped with the right resources, can transform public health outcomes.
