Communications & Marketing Senior Advisor

Kim Martin is a veteran public affairs specialist with 25 years’ experience –the last 20 of which were at Johns Hopkins University. She is also a digital content strategist and has overseen the development of several websites, while also producing interactive and instructional design content for the web. She came to the Gates Institute from Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs (CCP), where she served as Communications Director for a $140-million USAID-funded global communication project – The Health Communication Capacity Collaborative.

She returned to CCP after spending six years as Director of Communications and Public Affairs at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center, the pediatric hospital at Johns Hopkins. She started her Hopkins’ career at CCP in 2001 as a Senior Public Affairs Officer. She also was the advocacy director of a global malaria advocacy project funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation­­ – VOICES for a Malaria-Free Future.

Kim came to Hopkins from Fleishman-Hillard Inc., where she served as a Vice President of Public Affairs. A former journalist, Kim worked as a reporter for the Associated Press in Miami, Florida, and Hartford, Connecticut; McGraw Hill’s Energy and Business Newsletters in New York City; and Dow Jones Newswire in Washington, DC, where she covered Congress, federal agencies and the Clinton Administration. Kim has a Masters in Journalism from New York University and Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology from the University of Maryland, School of Medicine.
