Khadija Ibrahim Mamman is a TCI-trained social mobilizer and Field Assistant in Yobe State.
Khadija Ibrahim Mamman is a 32-year-old wife and mother of one from Potiskum LGA in Yobe State, Nigeria. Her life was transformed through her engagement with The Challenge Initiative (TCI), which strengthened her capacity as a social mobilizer supporting family planning (FP) and adolescent and youth sexual and reproductive health (AYSRH) demand generation. Khadija recalls:
Before TCI, I was just a community mobilizer with a passion for helping others, but I lacked the skills and confidence to make a real impact.
Before joining TCI, Khadija worked with the local government on an ad hoc basis. Although deeply committed to helping others, she did not yet have the skills and confidence to perform at her full potential. That began to change through TCI training, mentorship, and ongoing coaching. Over time, she became a role model among her peers, inspiring others with her growing confidence and abilities. Her improved capacity soon helped her secure a position as a Field Assistant with Action Against Hunger (ACF).
Everything changed when I was selected as one of the social mobilizers and trained by TCI on demand generation for FP/AYSRH in my local government. During the training, we were also informed about TCI University, where we can gain more knowledge and earn certificates through various courses. However, I didn’t pay much attention to it until one of our social mobilization review meetings with TCI’s Ndyip Balat. She encouraged us to register on TCI University, take courses, and gain certificates. With her help, continued coaching, and navigating the website, I registered at the university and began taking courses. I have earned 50 certificates in areas like demand generation, service delivery, advocacy, and monitoring and evaluation.
The skills I gained opened doors to new possibilities, and I landed my first role as Field Assistant at ACF. All these have been life-changing for me.

Not only do I support my family, but I also help pay my siblings’ school fees, which changes their lives forever.
TCI’s investment in me has multiplied, empowering others and fostering a community of change-makers. Their capacity building through training programs, review meetings, physical and virtual coaching, and upskilling on TCI University equipped me with the tools and confidence to excel.
Today, I’m a testament to the power of TCI’s work.
Khadija’s story highlights the strength of TCI’s holistic approach – building skills, confidence, and career pathways while strengthening community-level demand generation. It also shows how TCI’s model can create lasting impact in humanitarian settings like Yobe State by empowering local champions to lead and mentor others.
