TCI’s Partners with Private Sector SHOFCO to Increase Access to Family Planning Services
Shining Hope for Communities – or SHOFCO – is a Kenya-based network of private facilities operating in Nairobi’s slum areas. These community-based health clinics began as a grassroots soccer club founded by former slum resident Kennedy Odede, who says he is a firm believer in “community-based solutions.”
The Challenge Initiative (TCI) has joined forces with SHOFCO and the Nairobi county government to provide family planning and adolescent and youth sexual and reproductive health (AYSRH) services through SHOFCO’s facilities.
The following video provides a look at the work TCI, the local government and SHOFCO are doing together in a public-private partnership to benefit girls like 17-year-old Celine Ivasha. Celine became pregnant at 15 and had to leave school. She says a social worker at the SHOFCO Health Centre located in the Mathare slum gave her hope for a brighter future.
To find out more about Celine’s story and SHOFCO’s partnership with TCI, watch the 10-minute video below. A shorter-six-minute video is also provided.
