Ruth Folasade Abiala, Deputy Director & Health Care Financing Desk Officer at the Osun State Ministry of Health, describes her experience with The Challenge Initiative (TCI) as transformative. Through TCI University (TCI-U), she has expanded her skills and knowledge, becoming a key resource in her state. Reflecting on her educational journey, she shares:

TCI-U has been a game-changer for me, As a Master Trainer and lead facilitator in the state, I’ve seen a significant boost in my capacity and confidence.”

TCI-U has become the go-to platform for healthcare professionals in Osun State and other TCI partner states in Nigeria, offering a wealth of knowledge on TCI’s high-impact practices and other interventions (HIPS & HIIs). Abiala, a nurse by profession, was introduced to TCI-U by the state team in Osun State during a technical coaching session with her state counterparts.

I was immediately intrigued by the platform’s potential to enhance my skills. With the encouragement of the state TCI team, I decided to take the plunge and explore the courses offered. I’m a self-starter, so I didn’t need much convincing. I just dove right in!”

With the support of the state team, navigating TCI-U was seamless for Abiala. They helped her select courses that aligned perfectly with her interests and career goals. Motivated by the value these courses would bring to her daily work, she was eager to engage with the material.

To date, Abiala has completed 52 certified courses through TCI-U, earning numerous certificates and gaining a deeper understanding of family planning service delivery in healthcare facilities. She says the newfound knowledge has truly enhanced her ability to make a difference in her work.

The courses have equipped me with the tools and knowledge I need to be a more effective leader and facilitator. I have a wider understanding of facility activities, TCI implementation strategies, and insights for effective supportive supervision.”

Abiala recently coached 90 students from the School of Nursing in Osun State to navigate the platform and complete courses. She is currently meeting with school authorities about incorporating TCI-U courses into the official curriculum.

She also encourages all her colleagues to take advantage of the platform, emphasizing that the knowledge gained from these courses can significantly enhance their work and impact on local healthcare.

It’s a fantastic resource for anyone looking to improve their skills and stay up to date on the latest implementation strategies across programs,”
